Learning To Enjoy The Process | A Creators Journey
What I've been up to this week
I had a great mastermind call with my supporters this week, and it was all about storytelling. We all shared what we do to improve our storytelling skillsets and discussed the importance of storytelling as a creator. You can watch that video recording here if you'd like.
I also had a fantastic interview with Nick Andrews on the YouTube Creators Hub podcast about his recent success in moving his podcast to video on his YouTube channel.
This week has also been the week from you know where in trying to deal with my websites. A few months ago, I decided that I wanted to condense all of my web presence down to just a couple of websites. My personal website is here, and maybe there are some sublinks for my other projects—one landing page for everything (Coaching, Podcasts, Video, Courses, etc.) All the people who are succeeding online do it this way, and I've put it off far too long, knowing the mess that it's currently in. I've made significant progress this week and am pleased with the result.
YouTube Shorts and Vertical Video Experiment
Ok, I'll be honest for a minute. My relationship with vertical video, both as a consumer and a creator, has not been positive. I've always thought that consuming these snack-sized bits of content has you spiraling down a rabbit hole more often than not, resulting in a loss of time and killing your productivity.
With that said, I've been doing something on my YouTube channel for the past couple of weeks. I noticed that some of my older short-form content was showing up more in search results (both on Google and YouTube). So, I've decided to do some companion YouTube shorts to go along with some of my more successful long-form content. I want to see how YouTube pushes them in the future and the possible impact it will have on related videos.
A recent YouTube short has blown up in the search results recently.
For my podcast, I've always used Opus Clip. It's an AI tool that takes my longer-form videos and uses AI to break them down into what it thinks to be the best highlights from that video. It is a great tool that works as a starting point for short-form content.
Taking Failure and Hard Things In Stride and Learning From Them
This week has been rough for me personally and professionally. As you know, I'm a Voice Actor and have been for almost a decade now. With AI and the surge of AI voices, that part of my business has been dramatically reduced. Most months, when I was doing well, I was between 4-6K in voice work. Now, most of my larger recurring clients are using AI voices. I believe we will see a reversal in AI usage in the future, BUT right now, as it's the hot thing and SO much cheaper, it's just how it is.
I've really had to learn and grow as a creator and have found other sources of income to supplement, but it's just discouraging to know that I loved doing voice work, and the number of jobs I am hired to complete each week has been significantly reduced.
Thankfully, I've opened up new revenue streams in time and have never put all my eggs into one basket. I teach this often, and I'm so thankful I put it into practice in my own business.
Quote of the week
"A year from now, you may wish you had started today." - Karen Lamb
Don't wait another minute to start the thing you want to do. Whether it be a business, podcast, YouTube channel, or Shopify store. Whatever it is. Just go and make progress. Small chunks at a time, and you will be happy you did.
Tool Of The Week
Opus Clip is an AI tool that converts long-form videos into short-form video highlights. I've been using it a lot recently with the video version of my podcast.
